What makes PEACE, LOVE, and LANDSCAPING stand out?

Personal Involvement

Unfortunately, sometimes when you hire one of larger landscape design companies what ends up showing up at your home are a group of scruffy young kids working a summer job who have never landscaped before. When you hire Wolfegang Bonham, you get Wolfegang Bonham. He is personally involved in all our installation jobs, and won’t leave a job site until it meets his own high standards (many times, those standards are higher than the client’s own).

Attention to Detail

We take pride in NOT being the fastest landscape crew in the area. We work at a steady pace, covering all the smallest details in a methodical manner. From arriving at the job at the specified time, to cleaning up the job site each and every evening before we leave so you are not living in a construction zone during the installation.

Many times our attention to detail becomes value added bonuses for you. For instance, we may be there to install a new interlocking patio, but if I notice a shrub that could benefit from a quick 5 minute pruning, you can bet it’ll get some TLC.

As your designer, I will not take on jobs that ‘cut corners’. I want to be as proud of the work I do as you are to show it off to friends and family.

Innovation/Creativity/Imagination

As a company we stay current with (and in many cases ahead of) current trends and ground breaking new methods in the ever evolving landscaping industry. Concepts such as Mycorrhizae Soil Ammendments, LED Lighting, Rain Barrels and Rain Gardens, Roof Gardens and Green Walls.

Our designs take creativity and imagination to new heights, pushing the boundaries in terms of materials, plantings, colour and textural combinations, and harmonious compositions.

Environmental Sensitivity

Finally, at PEACE, LOVE, and LANDSCAPING we always work with nature, not against it. In fact, "Gardening with Nature, NOT against it" is our motto.

So what exactly does this mean?

- Water conservation through the use of proper mulching, storm water management, rain barrel installations, and proper plant selection/location to reduce watering needs

- Hand tooling whenever possible to reduce exhaust fumes from heavy equipment and gas powered tools, limited use of heavy machinery to reduce soil compaction and damage to the surrounding environment

- Working with the existing plant material to improve it through rejuvenation pruning, organic fertilization, mulching, and soil amendments rather than removing that material

- Using all organic fertilizers, Integrated Pest Management, and reducing the overall landscape dependency on expensive, invasive maintenance practices (Mother Nature doesn’t need to hire a gardener!)

What does this mean for you, the client? - Have a look at your next water usage bill. For every liter of water you use, you not only pay for its delivery, but also for it’s waste disposal. If that water is used for your lawn or gardens, there is no disposal… but you are still billed for it. Reducing your irrigation needs saves you money!

- Because we limit the use of heavy equipment our installation costs usually work out much cheaper than landscape crews with larger overhead costs. Somebody has to pay for all those fancy toys, and you, the client foots the bill for large trailers, bobcats, backhoes, and the operators for them.

- Why pay to have a new, tiny tree or shrub put in place when your existing trees and shrubs can usually be saved, reshaped, and rejuvenated

- Finally, you the client, get a good feeling knowing that you are doing your own little part to make this planet better for yourself, your family, and future generations with each and every environmentally sound choice you make

The Designer

Wolfegang Bonham is an admitted garden addict. What began as putting a few plants in the ground around a storefront for his jewelry business quickly became an obsession (so deemed once he had installed a private shade garden for his staff to retreat to on their breaks).

Wolfe received honours certificates from Mohawk College in both Landscape Design and in Horticulture Studies. He was awarded Hamilton’s Trillium Bursary for top marks in Landscape Design. He is also one of less than a dozen people in Ontario to hold an Intermediate Level Certification through the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain.

He worked for renowned landscape designer Sean James of Fern Ridge Landscaping, and was a former manager for Terra Greenhouses before deciding to branch out on his own to launch Peace, Love, and Landscaping

In his life before gardening he was a jewelry designer and an audio engineer. As such, his entire life has been centered around artistic endeavors. As a result, you can be confident in knowing that his sense of design, originality, and artist beauty are second to none.

Wolfe is constantly furthering his education and can always be found attending gardening and landscaping lectures, conferences, and workshops. Most recently he was been voted onto the Board of Directors for the Oakville Horticultural Society. He’s also passionate about reading up on plants, landscaping design, and stonework… and his book collection on those topics has outgrown his bookcases!

When he’s not gardening (which is very rare) he’s usually out riding his motorcycle, playing musical instruments, seeing local bands, or traveling to exotic locations (and seeing the botanical gardens while he’s there of course!)
